My first pwopa trainer (not plimsols etc) was a pair of Adidas Kicks... would have been 77-78'ish.. loved them... my fav by a country mile were a couple of pair of Diadora Borg Elite (Golds with Kangaroo skin) mid 80's ish...... just fucking immense... bought a pair of the reissues for £150,00 couple of years ago and although a nice shoe they are not the same.

My first as a young teen were a pair of black Golas. My best and favourite were a pair of white Filas, which I wore to Cremonese. They were like wearing carpet slippers for the three day trip.

As a young tennis player in my teens (competing against the likes of the Lloyd boys in Essex) Dunlop Green Flash "plimsolls" were tops in the trainer world.

Apart from slip on plimsolls first pair were Nike Bongos

Best pair - Nike Vandals in silver with red tick and the Nike vandals in black with gold tick. I got them both because I was spoilt.

Most comfortable was always adidas SX8000 , still buy this today.

We now have customised trainers with one online retailer doing a Europa champions edition (??) in orange and white for around a ton and half.
There are others over £200 with the badge /crossed irons etc.
I will just stick with my Claret & blue Gazelles at £55.

The first I bought from 'birthday money' were Puma Genoa
The first out of wages were Troop. (Such fun going to parties and being called a racist and a KKK supporter when it turned out to be a massive hoax)

Re: The First And Best Pair Of Trainers You Purchased.
as a12/13 year old in the early 80s my dad bought me a pair of puma GVs which i loved and probably my first casual stuff, quickly followed by a pair of faded jeans and a Lyle and Scott jumper. more recently (5/10 years) I've liked common projects trainers, you don't see them about really and one for the minimalist

I convinced my parents i needed something other than Hi-Tec for my birthday and went to Sportique which was at the end of Roman Road Market.

Came out with a pair of Reebok Pump and a Champion tracksuit. I thought i was the Mutts nuts.
